Modern Classic Bikes - The Honda VF750F

With their emergence of the CB750 in the late 60's and the maelstrom that was Japanese superbike development in the 70's, where cubic capacity, power and straight line speed was forever being increased, the early 1980s saw Honda once again dominate the 750cc niche. The new and innovative liquid cooled 90 degree V4 engine with what was then a staggering 86bhp made it the fastest bike of its class, and it also had power all the way through the rev band.
But there were a host of other developments that made this bike the complete package. Whereas Japanese machines had, in the past, been about absolute power, whilst European bikes were designed to handle well, the VF750F was possibly the first Japanese bike to combine both. The new V4 engine was housed in a rectangular section perimeter frame, and the half fairing was designed to fit aerodynamically with the rest of the bike, rather than just bolted on the front of the bike. The front end was equipped with a 16 inch wheel and anti dive suspension, and the triple discs (two on the front, one on the back, were considered state-of-the-art and by far the best of any standard motorcycle.
In racing format, the bike was 70lbs lighter and came in just as the American superbike racing rules changed to insist that any bike racing had to be derived from a road going version, rather than specially built as a race machine. In its first year racing in America and with its increased power of over 125bhp, the Honda won over half of the races, which was to lead to Honda's dominance in v4s in later years. The technology and philosophy behind the VF750F can be traced right through to today's bikes which remain as they were then, agile, comfortable and incredibly well balanced.
At the time of its launch however, this was a bit of a shot in the dark for Honda, and the bike had its downsides to. Outside the States where the bike had cast alloy wheels as standard equipment, the wheels were riveted and suffered from metal fatigue - not nice. Also the bike was not very reliable early on, but the sheer joy of the handling and V4 power and power delivery meant that these were put aside, leaving the VF750F as one of the best all round bikes of it's time, and the grandfather of some of the best bikes available today.

Upgrading the Headlight Bulb on a Suzuki VX800 Motorcycle

I've got a Suzuki VX800 motorcycle, and like many older single headlight bikes, the light output on both dipped or main beam is poor. The low output limits visible distance at night, and so limits speed, and also means that the blinding effect of oncoming vehicles is more pronounced.
I chose an Osram Night Breaker +90% bulb with a H4 fitting suitable for the bike. These bulbs claim to give 90% more light output, but still fit into the standard fitting, and draw the normal 60/55 watts. This means that they are a direct replacement to the existing standard headlight bulb. I did consider upgrading to a Xenon HID headlight, but a proper upgrade kit costs considerably more, and requires adding a ballast unit and modifying the bulb wiring.
Fitting the new Osram Night Breaker Headlight Bulb
The process for replacing the bulb is exactly the same as for most single lamp 'naked' motorcycles. Here's a quick summary:
  • First job was trying to get into the Osram Night Breaker packaging! Remove all the paper cover, press on the top of the case to unclip it, and then slowly work the front half and back half apart. They are held together by tabs at the top and bottom, and take a little force to get apart.
  • Unscrew the headlight unit retaining screws - on this bike, they are on the sides of the headlight unit. The screws can corrode, in which case apply some penetrating oil and wait for 10 minutes to prevent you rounding the heads off. Take care not to alter the smaller screw at the front. This is used to adjust the angle of the beam to prevent dazzling oncoming traffic. Once unscrewed, the headlight unit will pull forward out of the rear cover.
  • Disconnect the power cables to the headlight bulb, and the parking light bulb. Once this is done, you can remove the rubber waterproofing cover, and unscrew the retaining ring by turning anticlockwise by a small amount.
  • Now remove the existing bulb and replace with the Osram Night Breaker +90%. Take care not to touch any part of the glass with your fingers, as dirt or oil can cause the bulb to overheat and possibly shatter. The H4 bulb will only go in one way round to ensure the dipped and main beam works correctly.
  • Replacement is the opposite of removal. Place the retaining ring back on to the fitting and turn a small amount clockwise to lock into place. Replace the rubber waterproofing cover, and ensure a close fit to the headlamp body. Take the unit back to the bike and reconnect the headlight and parking light power connectors. Put the headlight unit back into the rear cover, ensuring the screw holes line up. Replace the retaining screws, taking care not to over-tighten them.
The Effects
Now for the moment of truth: is the extra cost for the Osram Night Breaker +90% bulb worth it? I can't show images here, but I took before and after photos. In both cases, the camera was locked to the same settings (1/500th at F4) so that I could compare the light output. There does seem to be a considerable increase in light output. Yay!
In practice, riding through Dorset countryside on a dark night, the new bulb gives considerably greater visibility at long range, giving reflections from road signs and cats eyes for a massive distance on straight roads. Even on dipped beam, the extra light gives better visibility of the road surface ahead when facing oncoming traffic. No-one flashed me or otherwise indicated that the new lights were blinding them, so the beam pattern has not been affected.
On main beam, it's much easier to see further into corners. The light is brighter and whiter, which allows for more scatter, so even objects not in the direct path are more visible. For a cost of £17.50 for a pair of bulbs from AutobulbsDirect (I saved one as a spare), this has to be the most cost-effective upgrade I have made!

What to Look For in Motorcycle Half Helmets

There are many types of helmets that a motorcycle rider can wear to protect their head. It is very important to wear some sort of acceptable helmet because no one wants to see something terrible happen. This will review the motorcycle half helmets.
When one buys a half helmet, they are buying half the protection of the head. It covers the top part of the head, and it can attach a visor or shield with snaps on the front and side. Secondly, there is a place to attach a neck liner so that when it gets cold, the neck is protected.
Since these are half helmets, they are similar to shorty helmets or skid lids. These other two are also half helmets. They have the ability to provide protection over the top half of the head down over the ears. If one wants more protection, their are full helmets available.
These helmets might average about 75 dollars in price, and they can weigh about four to five pounds. There are several brand names. It is important to try one on to make sure it fits correctly. Therefore, finding the right size is important.
If somebody wants to buy one, they can go to a bike shop to see them personally. It is a good idea to try one on and to ask a customer representative.
Getting new helmet can be exciting, and some people might want to transition over to the half helmet. It gives very good protection. Although, people can still have full coverage with the full helmet. They are not too expensive, and there are several sizes to make sure there is a good fit for everyone. Trying one on in person is a good thing before purchasing. However, if it is bought online, it can always be sent back for a better fitting one if needed.

DOT Motorcycle Helmet Basics

Let me start by telling you a little about myself and how I got into DOT Motorcycle Helmets. For the past five seasons I have been riding a motorcycle. I have a passion for riding and would like to ride for the rest of my life...in order to do so, I want to be as safe and protected as I can...while still being able to enjoy the ride.
So five years ago...before even purchasing my first street motorcycle at the age of 34...I bought a full set of gear. Now I'm not talking about just a helmet and gloves. I'm talking about the helmet, the gloves, the jacket, the pants and the boots. I felt like Evel Knievel walking around the house for about two weeks before even getting my motorcycle home...of course I had to break the gear in...what better way than wearing it?
Why did I purchase all this "stuff" before even having my ride? Because I knew when I did buy my bike, I would be so excited that I would just want to jump on that thing and run it 'till it was out of gas and not even THINK about motorcycle gear. So I chose the cautious route and bought gear that I knew would keep me safe...call it skin insurance if you will.
One of the main pieces of gear that I looked at, was the motorcycle helmet. I mean, up until this point in life I didn't know anything about helmets other than they go on your head...so I started doing some research. And that is what brings me here...so that I can share some of the information I've gathered over the years to help you in your gear purchase experience.
So, here are some basics of the DOT motorcycle helmet...
First, what is this DOT mean?
DOT stands for the department of transportation and is part of a certification process that is used on all motorcycle helmets. This is to ensure the helmet meets minimum safety requirements and can be certified for use on the roads.
Why is this certification important?
If you buy a helmet that does not have the DOT certification...it means you are buying something that doesn't even meet the minimum standard of safety requirements. It means a DOT motorcycle helmet will give you a better chance of walking away from an accident than not wearing a DOT certified helmet.
Types of DOT motorcycle helmets...
There are a number of types of motorcycle helmets...some offer more protection than others...while others offer more ventilation than others. The main types of helmets are German motorcycle helmets, 3/4 face motorcycle helmets, full face motorcycle helmets and modular motorcycle helmets.
German motorcycle helmets -- the German style of motorcycle helmet came into being during World War II, where the German army officers that rode motorcycles wore helmets. The modern version of this helmet is now called a half helmet, beanie or shorty helmet today. It covers just above your eye brows in the front, to the center of the back of your head. They have a meaner look to them as they expose more of a person's head and face. You will see this style of helmet on a lot of chopper or cruiser bike riders.
Full Face motorcycle helmets -- this style of helmet is the extreme opposite of the German helmet in that it covers from the bottom of the chin in front, to the base of the skull in the back. There is a visor that can flip open in the front allowing ventilation, as well as vents in the front, sides and top of the helmet. A full face motorcycle helmet is the only style of helmet that can qualify for the Snell Memorial Foundations certification, as Snell measures the safety of the chin and mouth protection in addition to the rest of the helmet. Snell certification has a higher safety level than the DOT certification, as Snell certification looks at the helmets for use in racing. Full face helmets will then provide full head protection, excluding the neck of the rider. This style of helmet will most often be found on sport or semi-sport bike riders.
3/4 Face Motorcycle Helmets -- this style of helmet is similar to the full face helmet, with the exception of the chin and mouth protection, where it is open in front. This allows more protection than the German helmet as well as more ventilation then the full face helmet. This helmet can sometimes be fitted with a flip up shield allowing more wind protection or have a replaceable visor which can shield your eyes from the sun. This style of helmet is typically worn by touring bike riders.
Modular Motorcycle Helmets -- this style of helmet has in recent years been taking to the scene, as it is a mix of the 3/4 face helmet and the full face helmet. On this helmet, the chin and mouth protection can be flipped up at the push of a button allowing additional ventilation to very quickly enter the helmet. However, with the chin and mouth protection in the open, it is not advisable to ride with the helmet in this position as it will cause significant wind buffeting and could potentially damage the helmet. In light of this, Shark has come out with the Evoline modular motorcycle helmet, where the chin and mouth protection can be flipped all the way to the back of the helmet...allowing the helmet to be almost fully 3/4 and full faced at the flip of a button. This style of helmet is typically worn by the touring or semi-sport bike riders...but is gaining popularity across all styles of riders.
So there you have it...these are some of the basics of DOT motorcycle helmets. When you are deciding on which type of helmet to choose, take into consideration the style of bike that you ride and the average temperature that you are riding in. Taking both into consideration should guide you to the best choice of helmet for your given purpose and needs. Safe and happy riding!

Better Quality Conditions For Biking in General

It must not feel bad for a typical guy to have a woman's arms held onto him from behind while riding through town, and possibly even the highway, arriving to a destination in a significantly at least a little more unique way and with a feel that is obviously different from using an ordinary vehicle. Consider, however, unexpectedly rain dulls up the picture...OR makes the picture look a little more interesting.
With the preparation of a motorcycle rain suit, suddenly driving a motorcycle during what may appear to be an opposing weather condition decreases concern for both the motorcycle riders and fellow traffic. Motorcycle rain suits increase other drivers' awareness of motorcycle riders by standing out in their own unique way. These same suits increase the overall safety conditions for those who wear them. For one, water-proof ones prevent the rain from having as serious of an effect on riders as it can. Different brands ought to be considered as you try to find which one would work out for you best. Perhaps a certain color, or the specific benefits that come along with a particular brand of your choice would be a good cause for the payment.
Such variety brings to mind to consider something at least a little unique, but not far too different from many selections you may see bikers in general make today, or groups you bike with. Standing out in a least a bit of a different way brings more attention your way and can likely get you noticed in other ways too. The contrast you have to choose from conveniently gives you reason to second guess whether or not you want to stop that trip due to a drizzle, or minor rainfall. It opens the way to the attention of others and more personal comfort even with riding in general.
Being proud of what you are wearing may possibly even help you drive better in ways you might not even realize. Satisfaction with your appearance likely contributes to increased confidence all-around making for a better ride. Choose the brand which suits you best!

Moped Motorcycles - Tips For Getting Your Loan Approved

So you are dipping your toe in the world of moped motorcycles. You've researched a lot of models and are nearly ready to go looking for the perfect ride. Before you start the hunt for the ideal moped motorbike it is very, very important to make sure your finances are in order. This will give you the best chance of finding the perfect moped motorcycle for you and your budget. This article will reveal the most important aspects of obtaining finance for that moped motorcycle you so dearly want.
The loan application process for moped motorbikes is a lot like applying for a car loan. There are certain hurdles to clear before being approved. Financial institutions are gradually becoming more amenable to providing finance for moped motorcycles. If you are young with an unproven or possibly a bad credit history, follow these tips to give yourself the greatest chance of getting the best finance deal and being approved.
  • Obtain a copy of your credit rating
  • Work out how much finance to apply for
  • Stay away from dealer financing
  • Shop around for a loan
  • Shop for a bike within your budget
It's a fact of life that all credit companies will want to check your credit rating. It is free to obtain a free credit rating report through a credit bureau. As most credit ratings are prepared from old data, you should check it to make sure that it doesn't understate your credit rating. Improve you credit rating by reducing the number of credit cards and their limits. Take care on any outstanding debts and have any inaccurate delinquent debts removed from the report. Ideally, you want the best possible credit score when you apply for your moped motorcycle loan.
Make sure you have included all the additional costs in the loan application. Moped motorcycles require riding gear, a helmet, registration and insurance. You need to include these expenses in your budgeting so that you can afford to ride the bike as well as make the regular repayments. Importantly, get the loan approved or pre-approved before you get your heart set on your dream bike.
Avoid dealer financing at all costs. Whether it's a Moped 50cc or a top of the range Hog, the salesman may seem super friendly and magically sweep all the financial obstacles to owning that gleaming, shapely new bike under the carpet. However, the extra fees, high interest rates and inflexible terms will come back to haunt you. You will find it much cheaper in the long run to get your loan approved by a reputable financial institution before you walk into a moped motorcycle dealership.
Shop around for your loan. Loans vary a lot in terms of interest rate, establishment fees, frequency of repayments, penalty fees for paying off the loan early. Enquire as to whether the interest rate is fixed or variable - with a fixed interest rate your repayments are locked at a predetermined amount. Repayments for variable interest loans go up and down with the interest rates. Finance companies differ in the customer service they offer and generally how easy they are to deal with. Try negotiating for the establishment fee to be waived, this is usually easier and more beneficial than negotiating a lower interest rate.
Stick to your budget and shop for a moped motorcycle within your financial means. This includes both the approved loan amount and any savings you have allocated to buying the bike. This is a mistake many young (and not so young) riders make. It can lead to financial hardship and you won't have the spare cash to enjoy your new ride.
With a little time spent getting your credit rating sorted out, applying for a motorcycle loan can be simple process. Follow the simple rules of being realistic about the loan amount, shopping around for your loan and staying within your budget. Do this and you will soon join the other moped motorcycles cruising the highways on the dream ride of your life.

Motorcycle Parts Debunked

At one point or another, different motorcycles will require different parts to be fitted on them to enhance their functionality and lengthen their lifespan. If you are a scooter enthusiast looking to lengthen the lifespan of your "toy" then you should consider purchasing the appropriate scooter parts.
Use Suitable Parts
Every motorcycle owner knows well that these motorcycle parts are made by different companies for different models of motorcycles.
Therefore, before you purchase any part, it is wise to consult your mechanic or motorcycle specialists about the part you are looking to buy. By doing so, you will be able to get useful and accurate information which will enable you to buy the right part.
As a motorcycle owner or dealer, you could be a potential victim of fake motorcycle parts, hence, always conduct the necessary checks to ascertain that the parts being fitted on your motorcycle or the motorcycles that you deal in are genuine and have a guarantee. The good news, however, is that many motorcycle parts are sold with manuals which indicate how they can be fitted, and how one can uninstall them in case they wish to fit in newer parts.
Maintain the Scooter Early Enough
You may be asking yourself why you need newer scooter spare parts whereas your motorcycle is still functional and just as efficient as it was when you bought it. Actually, you do not have to work your motorcycles into shambles before you consider purchasing newer parts to fit into it. As part of routine check and maintenance of your motorcycle, purchasing and fitting new parts to your motorcycle would help you not only to keep your scooter functioning well, but also do away with the possibility of constant break downs.
Save Costs
It will save you the enormous costs that may accompany the break down of your scooter due to extremely worn out parts that are good to be written off. These parts may also be known as piaggio parts. These are manufactured by a leading scooter company in Italy. Whatever scooter you may have, know that routine scooter tuning and spare part changing will safeguard your life and keep you from the unnecessary costs that may arise from scooter neglect.
Ethan Black was born in San Francisco, California in the early 80's. He graduated from UCLA with a degree in Engineering. In his spare time he likes to modify bikes with upgraded scooter tuning, piaggio parts and scooter parts

How to Ride a Motorcycle With a Passenger

Riding a motorcycle with a passenger or as a passenger is one way to intimately connect with someone. And if your intention is to develop a long term relationship with this person, it won't hurt to buy or invest in a backrest/luggage combo for your special passenger. Not to mention, buying her a set of protective riding gear like a full face helmet, motorcycle leather jacket, boots and riding gloves.
I thought riding a motorcycle with a passenger or as a passenger was a no brainer. But for safety precautions you need the basics of pillion riding (riding two-up) down pat.
For the rider or the operator here are the things you need to tell your passenger:
1. Show your passenger to wrap her both hands around your waist especially if the cruiser has no backrest.
2. Use the foot peg as a step when mounting the bike.
3. Do not mount yet until the operator is already braced. If you catch the operator by surprise, it might cause the motorcycle to fall over.
4. Avoid the hot parts like the exhaust or muffler. Both feet must be on the footrests and away from the wheel and drive system.
5. Do not put your feet down during stops.
6. Be physically in-tune with the movements of the motorcycle and the operator. Lean in during curves, hold your weight over the hips during acceleration and when braking lean slightly backward.
7. Explain and set a system of communication signals if both of you don't have a helmet mounted bluetooth communication device. For example:
- Two taps on the shoulder could mean "I have a problem".
- One tap on the left shoulder could mean "Please slow down".
- Three taps could mean "Stop right now, it's urgent".
- Thumbs up-means "I'm having fun".
Remember with added weight (your passenger) will mean that the motorcycle will handle differently. It won't steer as smoothly or brake in short distance. So it is wise to brake or accelerate gradually. Riding a motorcycle with a passenger requires more skills than riding solo.
Approach every maneuver such as cornering, accelerating, braking, swerving, shifting with careful thin ice smoothness. Also plan to stop at regular intervals just to check your passenger's emotional state and comfort.
To be sure of your passenger's physical comfort and if you can afford it, install a
backrest on the passenger section of your cruiser. There are lots of brands backrest/luggage combo in the market to choose from that fits the model of your bike. Backrest will enable the passenger to feel secure and able to relax and enjoy the scenery. Backrest also provides a barrier to sliding off the seat.
The saddle should be deep and roomy enough to allow adjustments to your position without crowding your operator. The saddle should not slope in the rear and not slope too much on the front that you won't slide into the operator.
So before hitting the road, have a pre-ride discussion with your passenger as how often will you stop, how long will be the ride, what type of roads will you be travelling on e.g. lots of curve, twisty gravel roads or winding back roads or high speed freeways.
For the passenger here are what you should do:
1. Interview the pilot or operator before agreeing to ride with him. How long has he been riding this particular motorcycle? Any experienced riding with a passenger? The answer should satisfy you enough to trust your life on the skills of the operator.
2. Suggest to ride with the operator on one or two shorter rides before fully committing to ride with him on long weekend getaways. You will want to check if you are comfortable with his skills and abilities and the motorcycle itself.
3. Do not startle the operator by making any noises or movements.
4. If you need to communicate, use the set of signals that both of you have discussed.
5. Do not ride with the pilot if he is drunk, high on drugs, sick or emotionally distraught.
6. Wait to get on and off the motorcycle until the pilot is firmly grounded.
7. If you feel uncomfortable in anyway, be assertive and signal the pilot. The pilot or operator should be finding solutions to make his passenger happy. Whether it is making adjustments in speed, seats etc. Do not be stoic and suck up to your discomfort. Fine-tuning is never ending.

How to Choose Beach Bikes

Beach bikes or lowriders have been around since the early 1960?s and they have been well loved ever since. The first beach cruisers were made by big names like Schwinn, Electra and Nirve. These were made in the US itself and were therefore known for their quality. Today, however, most beach bikes are made in China and imported into the US. Although this has brought down the price of the cruiser, it was accompanied by a slide in quality too. That said, the beach bikes available today are far more technologically advanced than their ancestors with multiple gears and other features. Although the beach cruiser has been constantly re-inventing itself, there are many features that they share with their ancestors. One must be very careful when buying beach bikes, particularly if you dream of using your bike for more than one season.
Terrain:
This is one of the first things to consider when buying beach bikes. A single speed cruiser is best suited for those riders who are not crazy about speed but want to enjoy their bike ride on a flat or sandy terrain. The single speed cruiser is a very simple machine. It does not have a gear and there need be no fear about sand clogging the gear. So, if you want a bike that is low maintenance, then, choose this one.
A multi speed bike is ideal for long rides and difficult terrain. The efficiency of the bike depends on the number of gears. As the number of gears increase, it is possible to make minute adjustments according to pedaling requirements. As you shift the gear up, resistance will increase. So, a bike with seven speeds, although operating on the same principle as a three gear one, is more sensitive to your needs. Multi speed bikes generally have speeds ranging from the third to the seventh gear. Some of the latest beach bikes have grip shifters, which allow the rider to shift gears by changing the grip.
Material:
Beach bikes may be made of steel or aluminum. Both have advantages and drawbacks. So, it makes sense to choose according to where you live. If you live in a place that is exposed to the salt spray from the beach, you may want to consider aluminum because it is rust resistant. Steel may be vulnerable to rust but it provides more stability and offers a smoother ride.
Style:
You need to decide on this quite early on. The right geometry and color matter a lot, particularly at a time when these bikes have almost become a fashion statement. Get the size right. You may also want to check out the right accessories for your beach bike.
Now that you're all set, it is time to sit up straight and enjoy the ride! Feel free to http://www.newsportsbikes.com/ for any information relating to beach bikes.

Safe Motorcycle Riding After Dark

When many motorcyclists first get their new motorcycles and start to ride they are often surprised at how different riding on the streets and highways is compared to the safe little area that they practiced in before getting their permit. I have been around new cyclists for years and almost without exception, they all remark how unsettling their first trip down the highway was on a motorcycle. If that wasn't bad enough then they get to face the experience of riding a motorcycle after dark for the first time.
If you have never ridden a motorcycle after dark then you cannot quite appreciate what a different experience this is compared to riding during the daytime. There are simply a large number of challenges that after dark riding presents compared to daytime riding. One of the main issues is simply visibility, both your own and the other motorists on the road. You are harder to see at night and things are harder to see at night, which is kind of stating the obvious but until you experience it yourself, you simply have no idea.
How to Be Seen Better
If you are going to ride at night very often then you want to make sure that you are as visible as possible. You have many different options including high visibility clothing, reflective tape on your helmets or reflective tape on your motorcycle itself.
You can purchase special jackets or helmets that reflect light from cars behind you and literally glow in the dark, kind of like road signs on the side of the road. If you have ever noticed how they are so easy to see and read at night then the same options are available for clothing. You also want to make sure that your lighting on your motorcycle is functional as well. You only have one taillight so you want to make sure it works. It isn't like a car where you have two and can afford to lose one.
How to See Better
In addition to being seen then you also want to make sure that you can see better. Many riders wear special glasses that have coated lenses that improve night vision. Another great alternative can be to upgrade the lighting on your motorcycle with aftermarket headlights or turn signals so that you have a brighter, cleaner and broader field of vision. Many options are available so research what is best for your motorcycle and your situation.
If you want to see better at night then consider upgrading your
motorcycle headlight with something like an HID motorcycle headlight and see your way clearly. You won't regret it.

Why Settle For the Cheap Mopeds

The majority of the people nowadays always settle for the cheap replications to be able to save a big sum of money without even being aware that they will in fact spending money little by little for the upkeep of these inexpensive yet poor performance Mopeds.
I am going to roll down a list of setbacks from buying cheap imitations of Moped most likely manufactured from countries like China and India. In the last part of this article, I am going to raise one question so make sure to actually read the contents.
Can you trust the product?
In some conditions, low-cost scooters have been found to be unreliable. Trading with a better supplier means you are more likely to be getting a high quality bike as a national company won't want to put its name at risk, and it is more probable that you have support from them if something goes wrong.
Can they guarantee quality Moped experience?
Some of the low-priced mopeds on tender are weakly made from low quality materials which imply that parts can be useless after a short period of time. This will not be your dilemma if you select bike and supplier cautiously.
Can you hunt them down for the parts?
Some traders will willingly sell you a 50cc moped and after that, when your wing mirror suddenly cracks or you need a new piece of bodywork, it can be hard to obtain replacement parts because they have to be imported from, say, China. So, make sure that the supplier keeps a supply of all parts in the UK.
What can you say about the tune-ups?
There are several bike stores that just tune-up motorbike brands that they are familiar with and they can be a bit snooty when it comes to repairing your low-priced moped. So what do you do if you have bought one and you need to have it repaired? It may be too late by then to think about this problem. You need to confirm before you buy that the supplier has a group of repairers all over the country so that you can readily get the bike to the nearest one.
Here's the question, why should you buy a cheap Moped when at the end it will be an expensive one because of the effort and money you put in trying to solve the trouble that it is bringing. Go for the high priced ones and you will definitely enjoy the advantages of the original Mopeds.

What Technology is Being Used For GPS Motorcycle Tracking?

There is nothing magical to GPS technology, 24 satellites orbiting at 55 degrees to the equatorial plane hammer the earth with precise radio pulses all day and night. These pulses are received by GPS receivers, and the location is derived based on the distance from the satellites.
However, not all location devices calling themselves GPS are really GPS. There is a technology called Assisted GPS (or sometimes AGPS) which is based on cell tower triangulation, having little if anything to do with GPS. Sometime also called "Location Based Servicing" (LBS) this uses proximity to cell towers to derive location. Since a minimum of three cell towers is required, it is not as accurate as true GPS. Some GPS motorcycle tracking devices being used now use the AGPS, since its cheaper for them and not necessarily going to give bike owners reliable help.
There are two advantages to LBS or AGPS, one is that its cheaper for the service provided and two the strength of the cell signal is stronger. However, if the device cannot pick up at least three cell towers, no location can be derived. Consequently, this technology works in more urban settings than in rural settings.
Once you have determined that you are dealing with a true GPS device, one has to determine which GPS Motorcycle Tracking is being used. Older GPS technologies require direct exposure to the horizon by either the device or an external antenna, which can make concealment a challenge. 3rd Generation GPS technology (SiRFStar III) works off of a reflective GPS signal. This means that the GPS device can be easily concealed without the need for the need for external antennas. This GPS Motorcycle Tracking technology can track inside garages and warehouses, where earlier generation GPS technologies could not.
Phantom Tracking is the first true GPS Motorcycle Tracking system on the market today and has a patented motorcycle crash detection that protects riders. This Motorcycle Alarm System also uses SirfStarIII Technology which no other system uses.

Motorcycle Air Horns That Will Be Heard

Are motorcycle crashes avoidable? Sure they are!
With so many hazards on the road you really need to have great motorcycle safety equipment in the event you do crash - which we hope you don't. But taking all the precautionary measures will extend your life and decrease injury in the event of a crash.
The first thing that comes to mind when I think of avoiding a crash is "motorcycle defensive driving courses". Not only do they teach you to "ride" a motorcycle - gears, clutch, breaks etc...they also teach you several defensive measures and maneuvers to avoid a crash in the event you're faced with a possible collision. If you have been riding for years, and have never taken a course, I guarantee that you'll learn something to save your life, it's what the courses are made for.
However, once you're on the road you need the right gear. You'll need a great jacket with some great protection and additional armor to help save you from a crash- you'll be amazed on which kind of a hit you can take with the right armor - a good quality helmet, gloves, boots or proper shoes. There are full suites that you can get as well. The price may vary, but like anything, you're going to get what you pay for.
One of the single most reasons someone gets hit by a car on their motorcycle is that the driver of the car did not see you. That said, there's certainly ways you can be heard. Most motorcycles come with a horn which makes a beep noise and to be honest - with the driver's radio on or talking on the phone and the A/C on - you're not going to be heard. So what to do? Install and air horn.
With the loudest air horn rated at an incredible 139 dB. That's in the range of jet engines and thunderbolts - you'll certainly not be over looked. They're easy to install and certainly worth looking into if you would like to avoid a situation.
Please be sure to explore all your safety options after you buy your motorcycle, or if you already have your motorcycle, shop around to find the motorcycle air horn that's best for you.

There is no feeling like riding your bike down the road with the sun beating down and the flow of wind in your hair. This can many times be a true experience that makes your experience all the worthwhile. This is why a lot of thought needs to be placed in this decision.
When you decide to make the purchase, you need to ask yourself a few questions first. The first of these questions is the fact of what type of rider are you? This makes a big difference in the type of jacket that you buy. If you are a true grit biker then you will want to get the traditional leather jacket for your needs.

Just How Important Are Motorcycle Jackets, Anyway?

If you thought that being well-protected while riding your bike only means wearing a helmet, think again. While wearing your helmet is essential, wearing protective clothing, like motorcycle jackets is essential. Of course you want to look great while riding your motorcycle and you can look great, and still play it safe as well. Here you'll find out what a properly fitting jacket for your motorcycle needs can mean for your riding experience.
Keep in mind that there are different leathers on the market that you can choose from to fit your riding needs. You'll typically find that the leather used for motorcycle gear is very tough, so that it provides maximum protection. You can think of it as your armor for the open road. Jackets are made and tested for strong seams, zippers and how well the leather does against cuts, strong impacts due to collision and burst resistance.
You'll find that there are extra protective layers in the specialized jackets. For instance, the shoulder, back, and elbow areas all have extra protection. This is why getting the right measurements when placing your order is essential. You want the jacket to fit correctly so all of the heavily protected areas actually meet with your body.
Even though this type of jacket has crept off road to serve as a major fashion statement, you don't want to forget about its safety value. You want a great looking jacket, whether you're a woman, a man or if you're thinking about getting your little one involved in the bike riding experience. You definitely should put your safety first when it comes to riding, this way you can enhance your riding experience. Have fun while knowing you're doing all that you can to stay safe.
You also want to make sure that you're able to move in your jacket. Some jackets are binding and hard to wear. This makes it difficult to focus while on the road. You want a jacket that will fit easily on your body without hindering your movement, allowing you to focus on the road instead of being distracted by an uncomfortable jacket.
The ease of caring for such a jacket is another plus. The leather comes already conditioned, which means you don't have to do anything other than wear it! However, after several months of being exposed to the elements, sun, wind, and the cold of the open road, you may want to condition it with a soft leather treatment. This will help protect it against cracks, which means you're putting the energy into prolonging your investment.
If you're a new or a seasoned bike rider, you know just how expensive motorcycle gear can get. Even though you want to look great, have optimal protection, you also don't want to pay an exorbitant amount of money for it. Affordability is essential when you're looking for great protection and style.
Affordable motorcycle jackets that look great on and off the road is what you should expect out of your riding jacket. Don't sacrifice your safety. Enjoy the riding experience and look great without paying a bundle.

Motorcycle Clothes - What Type of Clothing Should You Go For?

When it comes to buying the right motorcycle clothes to suit your own needs, there are many selections to go for. As well as different materials, there are also a variety of designs, styles and brands for biking clothes. You just need to make sure the right gear is chosen for your riding trip.
It is important to take into account any weather conditions that you may face along your journey. If it becomes cold, wet or warm, then an appropriate gear should have been chosen. For instance, in wet weather, waterproof clothing is needed to protect you against the rain. It is advisable to prepare all the clothes before the trip in order to be well prepared for any adverse weather conditions.
Here are some of the different types of clothing to consider. This article should be used as a rough guide to get you prepared in advance for your biking trip.
One of the essential pieces of clothing is the jacket. This is because a jacket will keep you warm and protect you in case of a fall. Leather jackets are the most popular choice due to their longevity and quality. Some have built-in body armor which gives the extra protection in the event of an accident.
Next is a pair of boots for keeping your feet warm when traveling in cooler weather. You should buy boots that are as high as possible since there are hot parts of the bike that may burn your ankles. Again most people opt for leather boots due to how trendy they appear, plus they will be a great match to the leather jacket.
So, when it comes to purchasing the right motorcycle clothes for your individual needs, always make sure you are prepared for the journey ahead. The right brand of biking clothes from reputable companies may cost a little higher, but it will be worth the money in the long run.

Motorcycle Leather Jacket Origins and Construction

Motorcycle Leather Jacket Construction from WWII to Today
Motorcycle leather jacket construction was originally based on the WWII aviator style. In fact, the first jackets used for motorcycle riding were the A-2 military flight jackets. Aero Leather was one of the first companies to construct the flight jackets. The company used specifications provided by the Army Air Corps, a branch of the military that eventually became the US Air Force. The jackets were also referred to as "bomber" style, a name that is still in common usage today.
The A-2 flight jacket had two top-closing pockets with no hand slots in the pockets. The military preferred that their pilots keep their hands at their sides. Leather gloves were provided for warmth and protection.
One of the specifications provided was to construct the back of a single piece of leather. Single large pieces of leather are more durable. There is less stress on the seams. The number of pieces used to construct a garment or other leather item is one factor used to judge quality. Generally speaking, the fewer the pieces used to make the item, the higher the quality.
Schott began manufacturing jackets specifically for motorcycle riding in the 1920s. Buegeleisen started manufacturing leather jackets, saddlebags and other accessories in the 1930s and 1940s.
Indian Motorcycles and Harley Davidson manufactured some of the more popular early styles. Indian introduced the Ranger for men and the Rangerette for women during the 1940s. The main difference between the men's and women's style was the positioning of the pockets. The original Indian Ranger and Rangerette designs had one zippered pocket. The men's pocket was located on the right side of the jacket. The women's pocket was located on the left.
New versions of the Rangers have two or three zippered pockets, another with a snap and a belted closure at the waist. They are manufactured by Aero. Indian declared bankruptcy in the early 1950s.
Harley Davidson began selling motorcycles and accessories in 1903. They introduced the Cycle Champ jacket for men and the Cycle Queen jacket for women during the 1940s. Their classic style was popular throughout the 1950s and 60s. It continues to be popular today.
Over the years, fashion designers have changed the styles considerably. Embossed quilted ribbing and various colors have been added. While probably inspired by the original A-2s, the new styles bear little resemblance to the classic look. The practice of decorating the back of the jacket with artwork and patches began in WWII as well. Unlike other clothing from that era, jackets made from leather have never lost their popularity among the biker fraternity.
Many companies are experts at motorcycle leather jacket construction. You will pay more for the highest quality, but the jackets can last for 50 years or even longer so they are well worth the price.

Red Rock, Arizona Motorcycle Road Trip

Whatever motorcycle a rider chooses to ride there are many roads to be taken. Taking to the open road provides a rider with freedom and a break from the every day. Whether riding solo, with a partner, or in a group, there are many sites to see. Every state of the United States offers its own unique version of beauty.
One of these places is in Sedona Arizona. Its rock formations stand as sentinels on the right side of town, on the Red Rock Scenic Byway. This is a beautiful 7.5 miles, for a motorcycle road trip. It is also known as route 179. It starts in Sedona and runs south, ending at interstate 17 near Rimrock. There are clearly marked trail heads along the way, which would provide some hiking among the red rock. Spend at least a half day exploring the red rock formations. Some are named after objects they resemble such as bell, cathedral, and snoopy. These seem to change shape and color with every shift of light.
Most of this motorcycle drive cuts through the diverse Coconino National Forest. One will see many yucca, juniper, cacti, and pinion pines. Some of the wild life that can be seen are hawks, eagles, elk, deer, coyotes, and quail. In the 1940's and 50's motion picture studios shot many westerns here. One of these movies was Broken Arrow with Jimmy Stewart. Many people have been drawn to Sedona because of the peaceful beauty of this place.
A rider gets to always remember to get their motorcycle, road trip ready. In hotter terrain it is best to remember to drink often. Bringing a Camelbak or similar water source, filled with ice to begin with, will be a source of cool refreshing water, and keep the rider cool at the same time. Another item that works well in the heat is to wear a leather motorcycle jacket that has vents, with them fully open.

The Value of a Used Motorcycle

Being able to move from one place to another can be a tricky thing if you do not have the right kind of transport. Different forms of transportation have been invented over the years but one of the most remarkable is the motorcycle.
It is estimated that there are over 200 million motorcycles in the world and this is due to the fact that in many local communities they are a preferred type of transport for many reasons including their ease to purchase, maintain and use. The sale of used motorcycles is increasingly becoming a part of auto trade and many people are headed towards owning motorcycles. Motorcycle shops dealing in used motorcycles have had plenty of customers in the recent years because of the fact that it seems like the trend of owning motorcycles is fast becoming a common thing because many people have realized the advantages that come with owning these motorcycles. Used motorcycles are usually better in handling and performance and are a very good solution to someone with a slightly minimal budget hoping to save on things like maintenance and fuel. The fuel consumption of the motorcycle can not be compared to other auto mobiles because it is quite low but this does not erase the fact that motorcycles are a good form of transport. The local motorcycle shops in your area will almost always offer you the alternative to select between a brand new and used motorcycle and the decision for you should depend on certain things.
First of all, it is clear that brand new motorcycles are more expensive than the used ones therefore this might be a huge determining factor. Aside from that, there is the issue of certain models of motorcycles which are rare in supply and can only be re-owned if someone wanted to own one such type. One might be in search of a Vectrix electric super bike because the original one is really expensive and rare at that. The solution to this is heading to your local motorcycle shop and asking if they can get you one such used motorcycle. Chances are, even though they might not have the exact type you have, they will surely point you in the right direction. They could even offer you other options from which you can be able to select a motorcycle of your choice and before you know it, you will be the proud owner of a motorcycle that is in top shape.
Many local motorcycle dealers today are very keen on making sure that the used motorcycles that they sell are in the best working condition because more often than not, people who purchase used motorcycles are likely to come back in search of another one or will recommend someone else to purchase themselves a motorcycle as well. Therefore as you search in your local area for a used motorcycle, you can be sure that the shops will offer you the best deals because they are aware about the importance of customer satisfaction.

Motorcycle - Touring, Cruisers, and Sports Bikes

Motorcycle; simply say the word, and immediately people will have thoughts of their teen years while others have visions of some motorcycle movie made during the sixties and early seventies. Some think rallies, Hells Angles, or choppers ridden by motorcycle gangs and clubs. The motorcycle has given us many models and dreams to dream.
Depending on whether you count a steam engine as a "true" engine, the first motorcycle was either built by Sylvester Howard Roper, an American, who built one powered by a two-cylinder, coal powered, steam engine, in 1865. If you do not consider steam a "real" fuel, then Gottlieb Daimler, automobile industry giant, built the first motorcycle in 1885, when he attached a gasoline-powered engine to an ordinary bicycle.
Motorcycles have changed, a lot, throughout the years. There are now three basic types of motorcycles: touring, cruisers, and sport motorcycles.
Touring motorcycles are exactly that-motorcycles built for touring the country. Touring motorcycles can as many features as some automobiles, including audio, windshields, and even small trunks. On many touring bikes the back passenger seat has a high back that is rounded, and may have armrests.
Motorcycles such as those ridden in "Easy Rider" and other motorcycle movies are called cruisers. "Choppers" or "Hogs", have the seat far back, the handlebars high up in the air, and the foot controls close to the front of the bike. The rider looks almost as if he was driving while lying down with his arms and legs stuck straight out in front. A cruiser's design tells one that this motorcycle is not meant for staid, safe riding down a country road or freeway. Instead, this motorcycle almost has an attitude of its own, which says, "Come on, let's have some fun!"
Sport motorcycles are those that are intended mainly for racing or off-road riding. You will see many sport bikes used on the road moving their rider from Point A to Point B. These motorcycles are smaller than either touring motorcycles or cruisers, and are styled for speed and aerodynamics. In sport motorcycles, the driver's feet are further back and tucked under the driver. The handlebars are short and straight, and close to the body. The motorcycle is meant to be ridden with the rider leaning over the front gas tank tucked behind the windshield. The riders position reduces wind resistance and allows for greater control and stability when negotiating tight turns or launching the motorcycle over inclines or ramps.
Motorcycles can be much fun, and many a young man's first "vehicle" was a motorcycle. Motorcycles are not cars, the rider is not surrounded by metal like in a car, and even the largest touring motorcycles or cruisers are still not as big as average-sized cars. Riders should always protective gear including helmets, gloves, and special boots and suits if racing. In most states, helmet laws are in force, but even in those states which "let the rider decide" they can be the difference between life-and-death. Special gloves and jackets have building in protection to prevent skin and bone damage in a crash. Be safe, ride often, and have fun. Also, when working on motorcycles make sure they are properly secured in the upright position so they don't fall on you. It's important to use specially made motorcycle stands. Most racing bikes don't have a built in stand so they need front or back stands or lifts.
There is a ton of fun to be had when touring, cruising, or racing a motorcycle. The right bike for you and the right equipment can turn an ok experience into an awesome own. Stop dreaming of days gone by and get out there and ride.
Bob Jamel loves to write about autos, travel, and now motorcycles. Some information on motorcycle apparel and motorcycle stands was found on the Sportbike Track Gear and Pit Bull web sites.

Wearing a Helmet to Protect and Save Your Life

What is a helmet? How does it work? Why must a motorcyclist use it?
Well, as we all know helmets nowadays are very in important to a motorcycle user because fatal motor related vehicular accident percentages are high. Wear a helmet, in order to protect your head, and your life from having any form head injury, or even brain tissue destruction that may result to a state of coma lasting hours of a lifetime. Concussion which can also occur, can also be prevented when wearing a helmet.
Upon wearing helmet, you are giving your self the best safety chance in the event of an accident. As we all know, accidents may occur anywhere and do not give you a warning. So, you need to be alert and ready all the time. Nowadays, head injuries are one of the leading causes of motor related vehicular accidents.
Why should we protect our heads when riding motorcycles? Our head and brain are one of the major parts of the body that controls all the interconnected systems of the body. And as you probably know the brain is the largest and most complex mass of the nervous tissue in the body. So we must always protect our heads from any injury.
Helmets therefore must be used every time you ride a motorcycle. Rain or shine. Wet slippery roads add an extra danger as might lose your control when riding and you could encounter accident. If you wear your helmet and unfortunately an accident occurs, the percentage of having a brain injury decreases when a helmet is worn.
However, if is not being used, there is a big possibility that your life is at risk from any head or brain trauma sustained upon encountering an accident. It could even lead in to brain damage and ultimately your to death.
So why not use a helmet? Respect your life and those that love and depend on you. Make your motorcycling as safe as you can.

What Motorcycle Gear Will Keep Me Cool In Hot Weather?

In North Carolina, where I live, summer days can get so hot that it's hard to get the motivation to ride my motorcycle.  I have passed on many potential riding days simply because I could not bear the thought of suiting up in hot, muggy weather.  I am one of those riders who wears all the protective gear, all the time, hot or cold weather.  Sometimes, I envy the riders out there in tee shirts and shorts, enjoying a nice cool ride, but, I don't envy the consequences of that choice should they go down.
So, what's the answer?  Well, here is a list of the 5 pieces of equipment that I feel are the most important to stay cool and comfortable while riding a motorcycle on hot days.
  1. MESH JACKET - Preferably one with armored joint and back protection
  2. COOLING VEST - These are specially designed to stay damp for hours after you have soaked them in water.  I had to order mine online, but some local motorcycle stores stock them.
  3. RIDING PANTS - Again, armored at the joints and hips, but also with vents on the legs to allow air in.
  4. A WICKING FIBER SHIRT - These absorb any excess moisture that you generate and that the cooling vest passes on to you.  You can usually find them in sporting goods and outdoor stores.
  5. WATER BOTTLE - It's important to stay hydrated while you ride.  A gallon of water would not be unusual.  You'll think clearer and faster if your hydrated.
Keep in mind that if the air temperature is 90°F outside, the temperature on the blacktop is going to be considerably hotter, and in fact, well over 100°F.
Now that you have these tips, there is no reason to put off riding just because it's a little hot outside.  The mesh jacket and cooling vest combination will actually keep you cooler while riding than just a tee shirt, and, you'll be better protected in the event of a fall.  Of course, we all know that will never happen to you!

How to Have Clutch Power

The key to your motocross bike's performance lies in the clutch. You may be an ace as a motocross player but if your clutch is not doing its part, you may find your engine difficult to control. The following are some tips for an excellent clutch.
First of all, take out those Factory Clutch Springs and substitute them with stiffer ones. Bike factories never use maximum performance parts when assembling the clutch. High performance parts usually cost more money than those being used by factories. But keep in mind that you don't have to change every spring. Usually two or three will do but you can experiment on what works for you.
Do not neglect your transmission oil. It's not the same as cars and trucks wherein you can change the oil once a year only. Ideally, your oil must be replaced every two or three races. It may sound too much for you, but changing the oil is cheaper than a transmission overhaul. Remember that the crud that you pick up on the track accumulates and will put early stress on your clutch plates.
Always carry extra shims for emergencies. You'll never know when you're going to need these things. It might happen in the middle of a race and you won't be able to remedy the situation. You can simply insert the right washer under the bolt. The added thickness will preload your springs and take away that spongy feeling in your clutch.
You can top off your transmission to the proper level with Automatic Transmission Fluid, that is, if it is GM compatible. But don't use a Ford type fluid. The difference between the two is GM fluid grips better than a Ford fluid which is slick as molasses.
Never use factory-installed aluminum clutch plates. These plates are suitable only for regular use but not tough enough for extended motocross use. They don't hold up as well as steel plates which are heavier but more durable. There are two drawbacks for aluminum plates. One, they wear more quickly than steel leaving metallic deposits in the oil, thus, hastening mechanical wear. Two, aluminum warps easily when subjected to extreme heat generated in motocross.
Aging plates build up a glaze layer on the surface which makes them slip more noticeably. When this slippage is noticed, take out your fiber clutch plates and sand the surface to remove the slippery glaze. Reinstall after cleaning.
Make sure your clutch lever isn't set too tight. Set it so that a quarter can slide between the lever perch and the lever without catching the clutch cable.

Types of Leather Used to Make Biker Apparel

COWHIDE: Cowhide is the natural product of the food industry from cattle. It ensures that less of an animal is wasted post-slaughter. Cowhide is one of the toughest types of hides. It is used to make motorcycle leather jackets, leather vests, leather chaps and motorcycle tool bags. Cowhide will give you protection from weather elements. It will also help to prevent some skin abrasion in case of an accident.
BUFFALO HIDE: Buffalo hide is used for a wide variety of products. Buffalo leather "grain" is more pronounced than cowhide. It is a natural material that breathes, a lot like our skin. When cowhide and buffalo hide are split to the same thickness and they have been processed and tanned the same way, there is no difference in strength and durability. Buffalo hide is also used for motorcycle leather apparel and accessories.
If you are getting a leather motorcycle jacket and want the toughest type of hide, both will give you equal protection. Some say that buffalo leather is a bit softer than cowhide, but there is very little difference to them as far as stiffness and softness goes.
SPLIT COWHIDE LEATHER: Split cowhide comes from the underlying layer of a cow's skin. By running the wet hide through a splitter, the tanner yields two or more "splits" of leather, depending on initial thickness of the hide. Look for split cowhide leather in leather wallets and ladies western handbags.
SUEDE LEATHER: Suede results from splits that have been sanded to produce a velvet-like texture. Many ladies western style handbags are made from suede leather.
NAKED LEATHER: Naked leather is popular for making trousers, leather motorcycle gloves, leather motorcycle chaps and other riding leather apparel for motorcycle riders. It is smooth on one side and rough and nappy on the other. Naked leather has usually been immersed in aniline, a chemical that keeps the surface porous, allowing the leather to "breathe". This makes it more comfortable in both cold and hot weather.
FULL AND SEMI-ANILINE LEATHER: Full-aniline leather is the most expensive leather because only the best cowhide is used. It is naturally porous so absorbs spilled liquids.
LAMBSKIN: Lambskin is a very soft, luxurious leather. Its natural lightweight layers give it a distinctive, velvety touch, which is good for leather motorcycle jackets and ladies leather tops and leather shorts. Do not let its delicate texture discourage you. With a little extra care, lambskin is very wearable and the ultimate luxury.

Leather Motorcycle Jacket Care - 9 Basic Pointers

Using the correct leather motorcycle jacket care will allow you to keep your garment in like-new condition for years and years. The necessary steps are not that difficult. The simple "dos and donts" that follow are really all that is necessary.
1) Do use a wide padded hanger.
Wire hangers without padding will damage the shape of the shoulders, especially when the jacket is hanging for long periods of time. The hanger should be about the same size as the shoulder width, preferably composed of wood and padded with cloth.
2) Do not cover the jacket with plastic.
Leather garments become dry when they are stored in plastic or other "non-breathable" containers. Dryness leads to cracking. It is okay to cover your jacket with a paper garment cover to keep dust off of the shoulders. But, avoid the plastic garment bags. If plastic is all you have, be sure to leave the bottom open.
3) Do air-dry wet jackets.
Most people are concerned when their jackets get wet from rain or snow. While suede jackets can become stained due to rain or snow, high quality leathers can handle the elements, as long as they are allowed to air dry.
4) Do not use heat.
Hang your jacket in an area where the temperature is not too high. Never use a clothes dryer or heat lamp to speed up the drying process. Heat can damage the leathers natural oils, which will cause dryness and cracking.
5) Do wear a neck scarf.
A neck scarf is not just a fashion statement. It protects the color from body oils. The oils on your hair, neck and face will eventually stain the collar.
6) Do not spray perfume or hair spray while wearing the jacket.
The alcohol in perfumes and hair sprays will dry out the leather and can cause staining. Get ready for the ride before you put on your jacket.
7) Do remove salt and other deposits.
During the winter, your jacket may become coated with salt, just like your bike. You can rinse away salt and other deposits by sponging the jacket down with clear water. Allow the jacket to air dry as you normally would.
8) Do use a conditioner once a year.
Waxes and silicone products can actually be damaging. But a leather conditioner can be used on a yearly basis to restore the jackets flexibility and help the material maintain the right moisture level.
9) Health and safety
Various chemicals can be used in cleaning and conditioning products so ensure good ventilation when working on your leather jacket.
Now you know the basics of leather motorcycle jacket care. If you have specific questions, consult a professional.

Used Motors Scooters

Motor scooters are constantly becoming a common item to purchase in many countries across the world. The reason for this is the rising prices of fuel that have been a predominant thing especially through the times of financial crisis that have recently been an issue of contention in many local areas.
These scooters are designed in such a way that there is some sort of platform where the rider puts their feet and this part is somewhat a whole part of the body of the scooter. Ever since their invention, motor scooters have gained great popularity and today, many people are rushing to acquire themselves one. However, there is a great desire by some people to own used scooters because it is believed that they work better than the brand new ones and they are generally cheaper than the new ones. Used motor scooters are sold in various motorcycle shops in many local places. Originally auto scooters were meant to have lighter and less powerful engines than the other usual motorcycles but with changing trends, there are more scooters being manufactured with powerful engines therefore today's motor scooters are typically great performers. Used scooters can be seen on many roads today and they are very much a part and partial of people's lives if not because they are great money savers, then because it is very easy to learn how to use them. It is argued that they are actually the easiest to learn how to be used therefore many people feel the need to have them.
The Motorcycle Industry Council in the United States of America explains that today, the purchase of both used motor scooters and brand new motor scooter is at an all time high and in the United States alone, the sales have risen by more than five times and this is no different in countries across the world. Motorcycle riders will testify that owning a scooter might as well be the most relaxing and refreshing thing because they are actually quite easy on the road and they typically provide riders with great reason to own them since they are cheap and easy to maintain. It is not uncommon to find people who even in your local area who own other automobiles but are looking to buy used motor scooters. As much as they already have automobiles for everyday use, they need low cost automobiles to help them cut down on expenses yet offer them proper transportation and easy mobility. Therefore as the world heads into times of saving and being keen on expenses, there is going to be more and more people purchasing these automobiles.

Motorcycle Lift - Tips You Can Use

If you like to tinker with motorcycles (this includes almost all motorcycle owners), then a motorcycle lift is a must-have in your garage. A bike lift is basically made up of a metal table that is supported by metal crisscrossing metal bars at the bottom which can be moved up and down. The table (sometimes referred to as a scissor lift, table lift, motorcycle lift table, motorcycle stand or motorcycle jack) is usually made of stainless steel and the supporting bars under the table are moved by using hydraulic cylinders.
The main advantage of using a motorcycle lift is its ability to raise the whole motorcycle above the ground, so that the person can inspect the bike without having to bend or crane his or her neck. This can eliminate the usual back strain or stiff necks which is common to people who do ground repairs
Planning on buying a motorcycle lift? Check these out first.
  1. List down exact measurements. These bike lifts come in various sizes, so the model you are going to purchase really depends on the size of the bike. Measure the wheels center to center then add about 13 inches for front extension. If all this equals 80 inches, then you can buy any model.
  2. Motorcycle lifts should have side extensions. To make sure it is secure, people usually get on the bike as when using a lift. Side extensions make it easier to get off the bike when it is raised. Lifts with 8-inch side extensions are fine but larger bikes need to have 12-inch side extensions or bigger. Side extensions are also useful when laying down tools or parts nearby.
  3. Take note of the lift's weight limits. The hydraulic cylinders in most models can lift up to 680 kilograms or 1500 pounds. People who own bigger bikes or trikes will find their choices narrowed down to very few models.
If you are going to use these lifts for business, choose models with sturdier lift tables or more robust design. Remember, though, that these would need more maintenance. Here are some tips when using a motorcycle lift:
  • Make sure the motorbike's engine is off before raising it.
  • Check if the lift's security blocks and wheel clamps for the bike's are secured tightly.
  • Clean and maintain the lift regularly. This will not only make sure that the whole apparatus can serve you for a long time, it will also ensure that it will continue to function safely
Motorcycle lifts are useful tools to have, whether for business or household use. A motorcycle lift can be used for showcasing motorcycles for sale or exhibit, as well as when doing repairs, modifications or general maintenance tasks like cleaning or changing the oil. People who are planning to buy a motorcycle lift should take note of their needs first and make sure of their proper use and maintenance. Motorcycling in the Summer

A motorcycle can be a fun vehicle to ride. Feeling the wind whip across your body while riding down the highway can make you feel like you're almost flying. And the feeling of exhilaration to the fact that motorcycles don't eat as much gas as a regular car does, and you have the ideal riding experience.
But it can be pretty easy to forget how hot summer can become. And wearing leather from head to toe is by no means a cool way of dressing; at least not when it comes to temperature. Cars and trucks have air conditioning and don't require you to wear any safety equipment. Motorcycle riders are subjected to the heat and generally suffer if the proper precautions are not taken.
One of the more common problems is heat exhaustion. Writing in the hot weather can cause of either to suffer headaches, cramps, fatigue, and dizziness. They may even feel like throwing up. If all of these symptoms are present, a motorcycle rider may be suffering from heat exhaustion.
Anyone who feels this bad should not be on the road. Find some shade, find a building with air conditioning, or drink some cold water. Excess sweating can cause dehydration. If this is the issue, you can try drinking some Gatorade or mixing salt with your water.
Heatstroke is another more serious complication that can arise from becoming too hot. Sweating too much isn't good, but if you completely stop sweating and start losing control of your cognitive functions, get off the road! Find someplace cool and get there soon as possible!
Splashing itself with cool water and applying ice packs to your body can help lower your body temperature, which is your first concern if you're suffering from heatstroke. Don't take any stimulants, such as coffee or any other caffeine saturated beverage; you don't want to overtax your heart.
If a motorcycle rider ever suffers from any of these complications, they should seek medical attention as soon as possible.

How Do Motorcycle Riders Adjust During Summer?

Summer is the time when bikers break out their motorcycles. There's something amazing about riding a motorcycle; a sense of freedom and rebellion that is hard to get from merely driving a car. Motorcycles are also very fuel-efficient and can save you a lot of money on gas.
The problem is, it can get extremely hot during the summer. The clothes that motorcycle riders need to wear to adequately protect themselves can be very stifling; leather isn't a very breathable material.
Motorcycles don't have air conditioning. This means that, if you ride one, you are going to feel the full wrath of the sun on your back. Quite a few complications can arise from this.
Many motorcycle riders suffer from heat exhaustion at one point or another. If any one of several symptoms manifest, like headaches or nausea, heat exhaustion might be the culprit. Riding around in the hot weather has consequences.
The best thing anyone suffering from heat exhaustion can do is to find a cooler environment. They should also stay hydrated. The body loses nutrients when it sweats in excess; you need to replace these nutrients if you want to avoid any serious problems. Drinking water mixed with salt or any sports drink rich in electrolytes, like Gatorade, can remedy the issue.
Another more serious complication is heat stroke. This can be deadly if not taken care of immediately. The first warning sign is the cessation of all sweating. The body sweats to stay cool, and if it cannot sweat, it will quickly overheat. This leads to the loss of cognitive functions, which can be very dangerous if you are operating a vehicle. Rush to find someplace cool where you can lower your body temperature before you pass out.
If you are suffering from heat stroke, you must lower your body temperature. Under dire circumstances, it may become necessary to immerse the body in ice water. But, most of the time, a simple ice pack and cold water will suffice.
If you are ever riding a motorcycle and suffer any of the aforementioned symptoms, seek immediate medical attention.
